Finding the Microsoft Add-In

Before installing the Word and Excel macros, the Add-in first needs to be installed and visible within your docs and spreadsheets. This article explains how to verify the Add-in is loaded and visible.

The Microsoft Office Add-In needs to be pushed out to each user by an IT admin (see instructions here). Once deployed, each users should see it show up in the Word, Excel or Powerpoint menu bar, like the visual below:

If you’re not seeing the Add-In show up in the menu bar of Word, Powerpoint or Excel, try some of these options:

Check your account

  • Make sure you're logged into the right Microsoft account (you can verify with your IT team to confirm which email they deployed the Add-in for).

  • For most users, the Microsoft account should be the same email as your Billables account.

Check to see if it's hidden in the toolbar

  • In some cases, the Add-in is loaded, but hidden if the toolbar is minimized.

  • Find the Billables Add-in in the overflow menu ( … ) under the Add-In menu, then click to enable.

Force the Add-in to load

If an IT admin has only recently (within 24 hrs) deployed the Add-in, it may take a while for Microsoft to push it out to all the users. In this case, you can 'force' load the Add-in with the following steps:

  • Click the Add-In menu and go to More Add-Ins, then add the Billables Add-in under the Admin Managed tab. You may need to “Refresh” to see it. Once you see it, click on the Add-In and then select Add.

If you click on "More Add-ins" and you do not see the screen above, this your system will need to wait for Microsoft to propogate the Add-in to all users. This can sometimes take up to 24 hours (See Microsoft Help Center for more information).
