Switching from Billables AI Add-In + Macro to Desktop Application Monitoring for Word and Excel

There are two ways Billables AI can track your Word and Excel activity — through the Word/Excel Add-in or through the Desktop App's application monitoring feature. If you're making the switch, follow the steps below to remove the add-in and macro, then get set up with the Desktop App.

Step 1: Remove the Billables AI Add-in from Word and Excel
First, a quick question — was the add-in installed by your IT department, or did you install it yourself?
  • Installed by IT? You won't be able to remove it on your end. Reach out to your IT administrator and ask them to remove the Billables AI add-in from your Microsoft 365 deployment.
  • Installed by you? Follow these steps in both Word and Excel:
  1. Open Word or Excel and click “Add-ins” from the top home banner
  2. Depending on your Word interface, you will see 3 dots that allow you the option to remove the add-in, or you will click on “managed add-ins”
  3. Delete the add-in.
  4. Restart the application to confirm it's gone from your ribbon.
Step 2: Remove the Billables AI Macro
  1. Open the Billables AI Desktop App.
  2. Find the Word/Excel Macro option and select Uninstall
Step 3: Add Word and Excel to Application MonitoringYou're almost there! Now let's get Word and Excel tracked through the Desktop App.
  1. Open the Billables AI Desktop App.
  2. Scroll to Screen Monitoring and toggle it on.
  3. Open Microsoft Word in the background, then return to the Desktop App.
  4. Type Microsoft Word in the search bar — it will auto-populate once detected.
  5. Select it to add it to your monitored apps.
  6. Repeat for Microsoft Excel (and PowerPoint if needed).
Once added, your tracked apps will appear in the Desktop App with a timestamp showing the last detected activity.
